Your 10 Year Career Plan – Lets Do It In 6 Months!
Hi, guys. Nicole Coggan here, and I have a question for you. Ready for it? What is your 10 year career plan? Where do you want to be in ten years time? I only have two questions for you today, that’s the first one. So, have a brainstorm about that. Where do you want to be in ten years time? Okay, you ready? You got that one written down? Why can’t you do that in six months? Yep, I know, big ask. I asked you to think about a ten-year plan, and now I’m saying why can’t you do it in six months. Well, why can’t you? Have a brainstorm about the reasons that you can’t achieve your 10-year career plan in six months, and then once you’ve listed those reasons why you can’t achieve it, I want you to go through, think outside the box, no matter how crazy they are, and come up with solutions for each reason that you’ve given.
I’ll give you an example so you know what I mean. Let’s say your ten-year plan was to be the manager at your company, and right now, you’re just working at your company. You’re not anywhere near a manager position. Now, why couldn’t you achieve that in six months? You might say, well, you know, I don’t have enough experience, I’ve only been here for six months myself, so, it’s really unlikely that they’re going to promote me. And then you want to brainstorm ways you can get around that. Well, first of all, people don’t usually promote you on long servers, so, somebody could be at a company for ten years and come in every day and just do their job and go home with no enthusiasm. So, there’s definitely ways that you could become the go-to person, the person that stays back, the person that takes on projects, the person that solves problems and skips the queue. It may take you 10 years, you may need to finish a degree or something, and there’s no way to fast track that with your other commitments. But this is about getting your brain thinking outside the box, what is your 10-year plan, why can’t it be done in six months, and for each of those objections, write out possible – even if they’re coo-coo, crazy – ways around it, just to get your brain thinking. And if you workout that you can do it in a shorter time line, that’s awesome. Let’s go for that one. Okay. Now, if you haven’t already joined our Facebook group, please, do so, because we run challenges and post your results in there. That way you get support motivation, and you get to mingle and network with other challenges. Okay, thanks for listening, I’m Nichole Coggan. Bye for now.
