I offer adherence to National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and the SCHHS Safe Care Framework. I can fulfil the responsibilities of this role by the Queensland Public Service values.

I have consistently demonstrated a commitment to enhancing those under my care's well-being and quality of life. At Southern Care, I have developed my skills in delivering person-centred care to residents, assisting with activities of daily living, administering medications, and fostering a supportive environment. Similarly, while at Helping Hands , I provide personalised care to clients, helping with personal hygiene, household tasks, and medication administration. Through these experiences, I have developed strong communication, empathy, and teamwork skills, allowing me to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams and provide the highest standard of care.

I am currently completing a Diploma in Nursing from TAFE Queensland. Additionally, I attained a Diploma in Early Education and Care in 2021 and completed part of a Bachelor of Nursing Science from 2011 to 2014. I have actively pursued continuous professional development, including certifications such as HLTAID011 for First Aid (2023 - 2026), HLTAID009 for CPR (2023 - 2024), and NHHI Hand Hygiene Certificate (2023). I completed the NDIS Worker Orientation Module in 2023 and obtained the NDIS Workers Screening Card (Yellow). Additionally, I hold a Working with Children Card (Blue) valid from 2022 to 2025, demonstrating my commitment to maintaining up-to-date skills and certifications essential for providing high-quality care and ensuring the safety of patients and residents.


As a result, I understand my responsibilities for safety and quality in healthcare, actively participate in continuous quality and safety improvement activities within the workplace, and notify a relevant clinical or non-clinical responsible officer when concerns arise about workplace or patient safety.


During my first shift as a Personal Care Monitor (PCM), I found myself navigating an unfamiliar wing without a buddy. Amidst the hustle of double-checking medications, I noticed a discrepancy – a resident had not received their 1200 medication. Despite being advised by another PC to dismiss the issue and discard the medication, I could not overlook the potential consequences and acted. I contacted the Registered Nurse (RN), detailing the situation despite their presence in another wing. This resolved the issue and the patient received what was needed.


I practice per code of ethics, professional standards and legislation by maintaining current knowledge and competence within the scope of my position. 

Encountering a palliative care resident experiencing distress presented a challenging opportunity for me to provide compassionate support. Recognising the resident's frustration, I approached them with a willingness to listen. Kneeling to their level, I created a space free from pressure, allowing them to express their concerns openly. As the resident shared their fear, I promised to be there for them beyond my duty hours. Following my commitment, I made regular visits, engaging in comforting activities such as reading out loud.


Additionally, I advocated for the resident's comfort by ensuring a small light remained on at night and encouraging staff to extend warm greetings during interactions. The positive outcome of this approach was evident as the resident's anger subsided, allowing for more cooperative behaviour during personal care routines. Witnessing the resident's renewed engagement with staff and willingness to accept care reaffirmed the power of individualised support in palliative care settings.

I actively participate in a working environment that supports quality human resource management practices, including employment equity, anti-discrimination, workplace health and safety, and ethical behaviour.


 I encountered a challenging situation during my early days as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA). I faced a significant obstacle when caring for a more prominent resident who exhibited inappropriate behaviour. Despite being new to the role and unfamiliar with the resident, I upheld professional boundaries to ensure my safety. When the resident's actions escalated, including inappropriate grabbing and physical aggression, I took immediate action by removing myself from the situation and seeking assistance from a colleague.


Following protocol, I reported the incident to the Registered Nurse (RN) and Clinical Nurse (CN), documenting the behaviour for further intervention. I consistently enforced boundaries, I mitigated the behaviour and established a safer working environment. Despite the initial challenges, the resident's subsequent apology and improved interaction demonstrate the effectiveness of proactive measures and colleague support in addressing such incidents.


I can follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work undertaken to ensure high-quality, safe services and workplaces. 


Transitioning from a previous role as a responsible person for a primary school holiday program, I encountered a complex issue upon my return from placement. Faced with complaints and allegations of misconduct among staff and students, I took decisive action to address the situation professionally. By listening to the concerns of affected families and outlining a comprehensive plan for investigation, I demonstrated a commitment to accountability.


Implementing measures such as ongoing meetings and supervision protocols, I worked to prevent future incidents and foster a supportive environment for all involved. Through effective communication with stakeholders, including the regional manager, I ensured that the concerns were addressed and documented.


My approach focused on empathy, clear communication, and problem-solving in a challenging situation involving a resident with mobility limitations and behavioural challenges. When confronted with the residents' frustration, I remained composed, acknowledging their concerns while emphasising safety. By presenting the residents with choices and explaining the potential consequences of each option, I empowered them to make informed decisions about their care.


I successfully de-escalated the situation through effective communication, leading to a resolution that prioritised the resident's safety. I also ensured thorough documentation of the incident, informed the RN for appropriate follow-up, and advocated for further medical assessment to address the resident's underlying needs. Continuously checking in with the resident and providing ongoing support demonstrates my commitment to maintaining a positive and respectful relationship, contributing to a conducive care environment for all involved.


I am prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays in alignment with departmental needs. Additionally, I am willing to travel to different facilities as necessary. My flexibility and commitment to meeting organisational requirements ensure I can effectively contribute to the team's objectives while providing reliable support across various locations and rosters.
