Are you stuck on what to write to address the dreaded 'Stakeholder Engagement' selection criteria for a government application? Read on for a sample of real-life selection criteria examples that address stakeholder management and communication for a job application.

Stakeholder Relationships Selection Criteria Example:

Throughout my career, I have consistently prioritised building and enhancing stakeholder relationships, understanding that strong connections are vital to achieving successful project outcomes. By listening to stakeholder needs and concerns, I tailor my approach to deliver targeted solutions that address their requirements. This includes workshops, training and support, or hands-on assistance; I establish trust and foster open communication, ensuring stakeholders feel heard.

As a Consultant at Rio Tinto Iron Ore, I recognised the importance of enhancing stakeholder relationships. This was especially critical due to the technical nature of the FDMS and the need to ensure smooth operational alignment across various business units. To address this, I organised offsite workshops and Q&A sessions in regional areas, including Port Hedland, Karratha, and Dampier.

By providing focused training and support through these sessions, I directly engaged with users to address their concerns while gathering valuable feedback for system improvements. This hands-on approach proved vital for connecting with stakeholders and fostering collaborative engagement. This bolstered user confidence in the system and cultivated a deeper appreciation of the DMS capabilities. This, in turn, led to an improved user experience and increased adoption of the DMS across the organisation.

Stakeholder Engagement Selection Criteria Example:

Throughout my career in education, I've always prioritised building solid relationships with stakeholders to enhance opportunities for my students. An example of this occurred when I recognised the potential for collaboration with Volleyball WA to benefit our school's volleyball teams. To initiate this collaboration, I communicated positively with representatives from Volleyball WA, expressing our school's interest in receiving coaching support for our volleyball teams. I highlighted the mutual benefits of such a partnership. As a result, we secured external coaches from Volleyball WA to conduct weekly teaching clinics for our school teams. Our students benefitted from expert coaching, which improved their skills. The partnership enhanced our school's reputation within the community.

Stakeholder Management Selection Criteria Example:

As Head of the Year, one of my key responsibilities is addressing any concerns with parents. For example, I had to resolve such an issue involving a student in my year group struggling academically in a subject they had previously excelled in during primary school. The student's parents were surprised to receive reports indicating their child was failing the subject. It became evident that there had been a breakdown in communication between the teacher and the parents, as the teacher needed to keep them informed of the student's declining performance.

I arranged a meeting involving myself, the student and their parents, and the subject teacher. This allowed all stakeholders to discuss the best possible action to support the student and address their academic challenges. We identified areas where additional support was needed. It was agreed that the teacher would provide fortnightly updates to the parents regarding the student's progress and share an assessment calendar at the beginning of each term to enable parents to support their child from home.

The student was offered additional support outside regular class time to work with the teacher and better understand the subject. This aimed to address the student's learning needs and provide them with the necessary support. As a result, the student's grades showed significant improvement, with their average rising from below 50% to an average of 68% and continuing to climb.

Stakeholder Consultation Example:

In my role with Woodside Petroleum, I leveraged my technical expertise and understanding of data management to build strong stakeholder engagement skills. I designed Content Bridge maps to facilitate data migration into Documentum. This required consistent collaboration with critical stakeholders to understand their specific requirements. I extensively utilised Documentum DQL and API scripts for metadata reporting and updates while employing SQL, SSIS, and SSRS to identify and report on data pre- and post-migration accurately. Throughout this process, I worked closely with stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide timely, accurate reports.

In addition, I provided training and support to EMC COE team members, ensuring they had the necessary skills and knowledge to complete migration activities efficiently. By empowering the team with the right tools and information, I fostered a collaborative environment that encouraged active engagement. I also supported the Woodside IM team in resolving post-go-live issues, working closely with them to ensure a smooth transition and system functionality.

This direct interaction and proactive problem-solving helped build trust and strengthened relationships with the team, enhancing overall stakeholder engagement. Through these initiatives, I developed a strong understanding of stakeholder concerns and demonstrated my ability to deliver practical, tailored solutions.

Stakeholder Communication Selection Criteria Example:

On taking over management of a team and a contract for low-intensity psychological therapies, I inherited a strained relationship with the stakeholder, who had threatened to cancel the contract due to issues with the previous manager. I collaborated with the team to facilitate a smooth transition under my management, emphasising alignment with organisational values. I then helped the team clarify KPIs and use existing systems to enable improvement. I also invested significant time with the stakeholder, listening to their concerns to rebuild trust. I clarified expectations moving forward to align with stakeholder needs, and we successfully retained the contract, with the stakeholder executing both 12-month extensions. This also resulted in interest from a local council shire to replicate a similar program in their region, demonstrating the restoration of confidence in our services.
